ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Details surrounding a potential economic development project in Rowan County that could bring a $63 million investment and 280 jobs emerged this week.
An unidentified company, using the code name Project Tribe, is searching Midwestern and Southern sites for a new manufacturing facility.
An existing speculative industrial facility in East Spencer is among the candidates, Rowan Economic Development Council Vice President Scott Shelton said during a county commission meeting on Sept. 21. The company plans to begin operations at its chosen location in the third quarter of 2027.
The Rowan County Board of Commissioners approved an incentives agreement for Project Tribe at its meeting. The incentives deal with the county shows that the company behind Project Tribe would receive a tax grant for five years. The grant would provide an estimated tax revenue break of $877,473.
