Queens University sports program sees potential in Division I competition

CHARLOTTE — Queens University of Charlotte held its first District I athletic event ever Thursday night.

The women’s soccer team took on the UNC Wilmington Seahawks.

The energy, excitement and enthusiasm could be felt throughout the stadium at Queens University despite the loss.

Athletic Director Cherie Swarthout said they’re excited about what’s to come for the program.

“We’ve got a great fan base, you know, here -- cheering us on in starting to do things a little differently here at the Division I level,” Swarthout said.

The game was the most-attended women’s soccer game in school history, according to the athletic department’s Instagram page.
