Real estate roundup: A look at the latest local residential developments

CHARLOTTE — Plans for several new multifamily projects in Charlotte took shape to end the year.

Notably, Atlanta-based Portman Residential acquired Savona Mill and surrounding property in west Charlotte last month. It, along with parent company Portman Holdings, disclosed plans to CBJ of converting the 105-year-old textile mill at 528 S. Turner Ave. into office space and building apartments on nearly 30 acres adjacent to the mill. Work on that project is slated to begin late this year. Also, in Villa Heights, Flournoy Development Group is plotting 270 apartments on 2.3 acres at 2226 N. Davidson St. And, in nearby NoDa, Grubb Properties in December closed on its acquisition of 10.5 acres at the longtime Herrin Ice site, at 315 E. 36th St., where the Charlotte developer expects to break ground early this year on a mixed-use project that will include about 500 apartments.

Underway now in a different part of town is a 325-unit apartment project at 400 Carolyn Lane, near the intersection of University City Boulevard and North Tryon Street. And a 71-unit apartment development in South End recently wrapped up.

In addition, numerous single-family residential projects are in the works — in both Charlotte and the surrounding region.
