Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte receives grant for home repairs

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte received a $64,500 grant from Wells Fargo today to provide essential home repairs at no cost to five homes in Huntersville.

Dozens of Wells Fargo volunteers are completing improvements on the five Huntersville properties as part of Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte’s Fall Rebuilding Week.

Some of the homes in Huntersville’s Pottstown community need a lot of work.

“In this community, there are a lot of development, a lot of new houses going up, and that also raises the property taxes, which makes it harder for long-term residents to afford to stay,” said Beth Morrison-North, the executive director for Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte.

Volunteer work includes repairing ramps, installing new flooring, applying weather stripping, painting, power washing and clearing brush.

“Older adults, by in large, really prefer to stay in their home, but if they don’t have the right secure environment that becomes out of reach,” Morrison-North said.

Dozens of volunteers from Wells Fargo spent Friday morning painting, drilling, and landscaping four homes.

“We can do a wide variety of things,” said volunteer David Sidari. “So, last year, I worked on building an accessibility ramp for a wheelchair, so they told us how to use the router, power drill and all that kind of stuff.”

The work takes a couple of hours, but the impact will last for decades.

“They’re kind of shocked, that it’s not just a little thing that they’re getting, but really these repairs will last for the next 20 to 30 years, in many cases,” Morrison-North said.

Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte and partner contractors are doing additional specialized structural repairs to help families remain safely in their homes. Major projects include roofing and foundation work, HVAC replacements, electrical and plumbing upgrades, as well as new window and flooring installations.

The funding is part of the 2026 Wells Fargo Builds program, a $1.1 million nationwide initiative providing home repairs and accessibility modifications across 30 communities. The effort focuses on assisting older adults, veterans and other residents in need.
