Residents grateful city will preserve east Charlotte apartments

CHARLOTTE — Residents at an east Charlotte apartment complex said they are thankful for the council members’ decision Monday night to preserve the complex.

The City Council approved $4 million to preserve the Peppertree Apartments on Central Avenue at Kilborne Drive.

The complex will keep the same number of units, which is 292.

There will be 88 units for residents who make 30% or less than the area’s median income.

Employees in the leasing office said the current rent is between $1,100 and $1,700 monthly. Proposed rental rates would be between $390 and $465.

In the video at the top of this webpage, residents tell Channel 9 reporter Almiya White how the plan will impact their lives.
