ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Alexander County Sheriff’s Office warning citizens about a Spectrum scam targeting customers.
Scammers are pretending to be representatives from Spectrum, claiming they can lower their bill by ordering new phones.
During the call, they request access to your account or say you can make changes to your account. Once they have access, the scammers order new phones regardless of whether the victim agreed to receive them. These phones are then charged to the victim’s Spectrum account.
When the phones arrive, the victim emails who they believe is the Spectrum representative. The scammer then provides a return address to ship the phones back to Spectrum. However, the phones are not being shipped back to Spectrum; they are being shipped to New York.
If you receive a phone call, do not provide account information or passwords. Spectrum will not ask to gain access to your account. One of the email addresses associated with this scam is: myaccount@spectrumemails.com.
If you receive a call claiming to be from Spectrum, hang up and contact Spectrum directly.
If you receive merchandise you did not order, do not use a return label. Verify the situation directly with the company first.
