FORT MILL, S.C. — The Fort Mill Schools District has officially filed a counterclaim lawsuit against Silfab and York County, according to The Charlotte Observer.
The lawsuit says the ongoing dispute over the solar panel manufacturer does not consider the “health and safety” of students and staff at nearby Fort Mill schools.
Channel 9 reported in October that the school board voted to file the lawsuit after an emergency meeting. Parents have raised concerns over the chemicals used at the plant.
In July, a judge affirmed a York County zoning board ruling that said solar panel manufacturing is prohibited in a light industrial district.
However, the judge did not order Silfab to stop production involving chemicals.
The school district is now asking for legal clarification over the zoning issues.
