School district to pay $200K following death of crossing guard

61-year-old Stanley Brucker A crossing guard has died after being hit by a car outside of a Fort Mill, South Carolina elementary and middle school complex, police said. Investigators are still deciding if charges will be filed against the driver.

The Fort Mill School District agreed to pay $200,000 to the family of a crossing guard, our partners at the Charlotte Observer reported.

A driver hit and killed Stanley Brucker in 2024 while he was directing traffic outside Fort Mill elementary and middle schools.

Prosecutors declined to press charges because they said a school bus video showed Brucker stepping into the road.

The district denies civil liability.
