Solar construction in NC hits lowest level in 7 years

CHARLOTTE — North Carolina added fewer new megawatts of solar capacity in 2021 than in any year since 2014, even as it held on to fourth place nationally for total solar power operating in the state.

The state added 770 megawatts worth of new solar capacity last year. While it is a substantial amount of solar, it is not close to its past peaks. And in the Southeastern area, three states added more solar in the year — Florida with 1,660 megawatts, Virginia with 1,450 and Georgia with 1,203.
