Some children in Charlotte to roll into Christmas with brand-new bicycles

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Some children in Charlotte will get to roll into Christmas with brand-new bicycles.

It’s part of Hancock’s Bikes for Kids, a partnership between Channel 9, the Panthers and WBT radio.

The program has been giving out hundreds of bikes for 29 years. It identified low-income families who have children who need a bicycle.

The program is just as meaningful for organizers as it is for families.

“It is such a pleasure to see the gifts that our community has provided. Some of these people don’t even have for themselves but were gracious enough to give,” said Amy Martin, Panthers broadcast manager.

Some families didn’t have transportation to pick up their bikes on Saturday, so the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Charlotte Fire Department will deliver the bikes to their homes.
