CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the son of a Huntersville town commissioner shot and killed a juvenile early Sunday morning.
CMPD is charging Evin Quarles with first-degree murder for the death of Cameron Brice on Kittansett Drive.
According to the affidavit, Quarles told Brice “we have smoke” and fired four shots at him. The affidavit says Quarles fled the scene in a silver Ford F-150 that was registered to him. CMPD says they spotted it on Flock near the scene of the homicide.
Evin, 21, is the son of Huntersville Town Commissioner Edwin Quarles. Both are listed as living in the 10900 block of Beatties Ford Road. This is also where the Huntersville Police Department says a home was shot into overnight. But HPD has not shared the specific address.
Quarles is being held on no bond.
In response to the arrest, Commissioner Quarles shared this statement: “Evin is my son and his personal matter has nothing to do with his mother or me. Based on the evidence gathered thus far, he will be ok! My family and I are ok and I will continue to serve my constituents well.”
The affidavit says detectives obtained a “third-party confession” from Evin Quarles stating he committed the murder.
Spokesmen for the town of Huntersville declined to comment.
