ALBEMARLE, N.C. — Stanly County Commissioners will consider adopting a Stanly County Comprehensive Transportation Plan at their meeting on Monday.
The plan identified transportation system needs to support anticipated growth and development over the next 30 years. It was developed by the N.C. Department of Transportation, Rocky River Rural Planning Organization, and local planning partners with support of the Stanly County CTP Steering Committee.
According to the report, Stanly County’s population was 64,153 in 2022, which is expected to grow to 99,275 in 2055.
The report includes many highway recommendations. One is the Albemarle Bypass North from U.S. Highway 52 North to N.C. Highway 24/27, which includes constructing a two-lane bypass in a new location to alleviate future traffic within Albemarle, including bicycle lanes and sidewalks to enhance connectivity and safety.
