CHARLOTTE — Two Starbucks stores in Charlotte closed as part of a larger effort to shutter 250 locations across North America.
Locations in Fourth Ward, at 800 W. Trade St. in the Gateway Village development, and in the University area, at 9335 N. Tryon St. in the Mallard Pointe shopping center, permanently closed on Saturday.
Starbucks Corp. (NASDAQ: SBUX) announced on Sept. 24 it would be closing about 250 locations later this week after reviewing its store portfolio. Chief operating officer Mike Grams, in a letter to employees, said Starbucks had “identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don’t see a path to acceptable financial performance.”
The closures represent about 1% of more than 18,000 locations that Starbucks operates in North America, Grams said.
