‘That’s very scary’: Student stabbed during fight on Union County school bus

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A fight Tuesday on a school bus between two students led to one of them being stabbed with a knife, the Union County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.

The fight between two Porter Ridge Middle School students happened at about 4:35 p.m.

Deputies and EMS responded to the scene and said there were about 15 students on the bus at the time.

The victim’s injuries were minor, deputies said.

Parents and students were alarmed about the incident.

“It’s kind of scary to think that kids bring knives to school and stuff like that,” student Joe Thalmann said.

“What else could they be bringing that nobody knows about?” parent Amy Thalmann said. “That’s very scary.”

Joe and Amy Thalmann felt unsettled about the news and were concerned about their child’s safety.

“I mean, I was shocked because he rides the bus, like normally rides the bus,” Amy Thalmann said.

A photo from a Facebook group shows the commotion when EMS and deputies responded to the Lake Park area.

“Hopefully, this is something that gets dealt with,” Amy Thalmann said. “I mean, I don’t know what you do? Put metal detectors in the school? I mean this is crazy. I hate that this is happening to our country, to our world.”

The district said the students will be disciplined.

The stabbing is under investigation and no other information has been released.
