Suspect arrested, accused of leading police on chase, shooting at them, police say

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A high-speed chase where the suspect shot at deputies in Burke County ends in Vale after a large-scale manhunt.

Only Channel 9 cameras were there when the suspect was taken into custody behind some homes along Highway 10 in Catawba County.

Deputies said the chase started Monday night in Burke County along Highway 18 after officers spotted a stolen pickup truck. During the pursuit, the driver fired at deputies and later wrecked in a yard and ran behind some homes.

Cleveland County Sheriff’s deputies used their K-9, “Odin,” to track the driver who was found with a weapon.

He was then examined by emergency services.

No one was hurt during the pursuit or the arrest.
