Tour lets you explore the secret gardens of Fourth Ward

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — From the micro to the magnificent, the Secret Gardens of Fourth Ward tour showcases a mix of private gardens, courtyards and outdoor living spaces that are rarely, if ever, open to the public.

Explore these hidden oases in one of Charlotte’s most historic neighborhoods May 20-21.

Know before you go

Tour hours are from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

This is a walkable, self-guided tour, but free golf cart rides from Ride Charlotte are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition to the featured gardens, the tour will highlight public art, historic homes and special points of interest along the tour route.

Admission includes complimentary food and drink tastings in gardens and restaurants along the tour route (while supplies last).

On Saturday only, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Elmwood/Pinewood Cemetery will host an optional living history event called “Voices from the Past.” Guests can stroll through Charlotte’s historic cemeteries and interact with portrayers as they tell the stories of the men and women who helped make Charlotte what it is today.

The tour usually sells out, so organizers suggest buying your tickets in advance. Day-specific tickets cost $30 per person and can be used for either Saturday or Sunday. Weekend Flex tickets cost $40 per person and can be used for whichever day you choose.

When you arrive, you must redeem your ticket for a tour guidebook at the ticket booth at the corner of West 9th and North Poplar streets in Fourth Ward.

The ticket booth will also be the only location for same-day ticket purchases if tickets are still available.
