DAVIDSON, N.C. — The town of Davidson will begin monitoring the air after sections of soil tested positive for asbestos in Roosevelt Wilson Park.

Davidson will also test the surrounding areas where plots of land are sectioned off with orange fences.

There’s several major infrastructure projects planned with Charlotte Water and NCDOT.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality is also looking into more testing for other impacted areas.

The problem stems from the former Carolina Asbestos Plant dumping the cancer-causing mineral in nearby areas where the park and several neighborhoods now sit.

A town spokesperson said the NCDEQ will hold another meeting in the next month or so to figure out how to proceed with the Charlotte Water and NCDOT projects in relation to the asbestos.
