Tractor-trailer gets stuck on Wingate railroad tracks, again

WINGATE, N.C. — Another tractor-trailer got stuck on the railroad tracks in Wingate.

The Wingate Police Department posted a picture on Facebook, saying the truck got stuck Saturday at the North Main Street crossing. Police notified the railroad to avoid a train crashing into it, which we have seen countless times before.

Back in June, a train crashed into a stuck tractor-trailer that was hauling bricks.

Town officials say the railroad crossing grade is too high for certain trucks to drive over. They plan to flatten the North Main Street crossing, but the North Carolina Department of Transportation said that work won’t start until August 2025.

In the meantime, they have taken steps to mitigate the truck traffic.

NCDOT said last month, crews installed “no truck” signs in front of the tracks and put a detour in place for truck drivers.
