Driver dies after hitting cow in Lancaster County, troopers say

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A driver died Tuesday night in Lancaster County after hitting a cow in the roadway, then a fence, troopers confirmed.

Joel Knight, 52, from Kershaw County was in a 2006 Ford Ranger on Rocky River Road two miles north of Heath Springs when the crash happened at 6:20 p.m.

Authorities said Knight's truck struck the cow that was in the road, then his truck crashed into a fence, the Herald of Rock Hill reported.

Knight was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene.

The cow also died at the scene, officials said.
