Two people dead after car collides with tree in Ashe County, NCSHP says

ASHE COUNTY, N.C. — Two people died Thursday morning after a crash in Ashe County on U.S. Highway 88 near Roe Hunt Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

A 2013 Ford Focus was traveling west when it ran off the road to the right and collided with a tree around 9:10 a.m.

62-year-old Shirley Ann Ellison of Valdese was the driver of the Ford Focus. She died due to her injuries at the scene, troopers said. The front seat passenger, 60-year-old Nancy Patrick Ellison of Sparta, also died at the scene due to her injuries. She was not restrained by a seatbelt.

Part of U.S. Highway 88 was closed for almost two hours due to the crash. Troopers said the investigation remains open.
