COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Rock Hill man won $500,000 after buying a winning lottery ticket at Scotts Food Store on Heckle Boulevard, officials with the S.C. Education Lottery said.
The purchase secured the first top prize in the Triple Red 777 scratch-off game, beating odds of 1 in 1,272,000, according to lottery officials.
The winner purchased the $10 ticket after leaving work when the game caught his eye. After cashing the ticket, he returned to work and chose to remain anonymous.
The Rock Hill lottery player spoke with South Carolina Education Lottery officials after claiming the payout.
“It was unbelievable,” he said.
He added that he has no immediate plans for the money, saying, “Maybe I’ll believe it when it hits my bank account.”
Scotts Food Store received a $5,000 commission for selling the winning ticket. Four top prizes remain in the Triple Red 777 game.
