Warning issued after someone tried to recycle loaded gun magazine

Loaded magazine found by Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Services

CHARLOTTE — The Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Department has a warning that some may consider common sense: don’t try to recycle guns, especially if they still have bullets in them.

You can’t recycle guns or bullets in Mecklenburg County since there’s a good chance the bullets could be fired during the recycling process.

But someone apparently put a loaded magazine inside their recycling load earlier this month. Solid Waste shared a photo of the magazine with rifle rounds still inside.

The county says guns need to be taken to gun shops or the police department if you need to dispose of them.
