CHARLOTTE — Daylight saving time is coming to an end this weekend, meaning sunsets are about to start a lot earlier.
But what if we didn’t have to change the clocks back? That’s what legislators in the U.S. House proposed with the Sunshine Protection Act. It aims to keep daylight saving time permanent, so sunsets and sunrises would be later in the summer.
The bill made headlines when it passed in the House back in July, but it has been stuck in the Senate Commerce, Science, Transportation Committee since then.
This effort was attempted in 2021, but it was the other way around, passing in the U.S. Senate and then stalling out before being brought to a vote on the House floor.
President Donald Trump signaled his support for the bill.
Polling by the Associated Press shows that the majority of Americans say they don’t want to change the clocks twice a year.
