Which public elementary schools in the Charlotte area are rated best?

CHARLOTTE — Part two of CBJ’s rundown of K-12 school rankings from Niche hones in on where many pupils begin their education: public elementary schools.

In the 2022 ranking, Niche puts Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy — a Charlotte charter school — in the No. 1 spot, locally. It ranked as the second best public elementary school in the state and at No. 78 in the U.S.

Metrolina was one of seven public elementary schools in the Charlotte region to appear in the national ranking. That list includes traditional, charter and magnet schools.

When looking squarely at traditional public elementary schools, one school district in particular was well represented in the local ranking. Eight of the area’s top 20 elementary schools came from the Fort Mill School District.

The rankings from Pittsburgh-based research and review site Niche aim to provide a more personal view of schools. In addition to analyzing test scores and academic performance, it incorporates data from sources like the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities, as well as opportunities for extracurricular activities.

To determine the top public elementary schools, the following factors were taken into consideration: academics grade, 50%; teachers grade, 20%; overall Niche grade for district, 15%; culture and diversity grade, 10%; and parent/student surveys on overall experience, 5%.
