Woman found dead inside house that caught fire; no foul play, Gastonia police say

GASTONIA, N.C. — Crews were called to a house fire Monday night when they found a 70-year-old woman dead inside, Gastonia police said.

The fire happened before shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Linwood Road. Gastonia firefighters entered the house and found the body of Hannah Brooking, who police said was a resident of the home.

No foul play is suspected in Brooking’s death, and the Gastonia Fire Marshall’s Office ruled the fire accidental, police said.
