Woman shot, killed in Lincolnton; suspect in custody, police say

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A woman was shot and killed at an apartment in Lincolnton Wednesday, authorities said.

Lincolnton police said officers were called around 11 p.m. that day to a home on North Flint Street, where they found 46-year-old Valeska Keely Ward who was taken to a hospital where she died, investigators said.

The suspect in the case, Muhammed Ali Camp, is in custody, and second-degree murder charges are pending, they said.

Channel 9′s Ken Lemon learned Ward and Camp knew each other and were friends.

Ward’s friend, Amy Owens told Lemon. “For somebody to do this to her, she didn’t deserve to die.”

Owens said Camp recently threatened her and Ward.

Owens said she called the police after the shooting.

“I wouldn’t stop until they got him,” Owens said. “I was being her voice.”

Camp is being held in jail without bond and will face a judge Friday morning.

“This is a sad day for me, her family and her friends, and I just want to remember her the way she was,” Owens said.

Anyone with information is asked to call either Detective Jon Propst or Detective Mamadou Diallo at 704-736-8900.
