Mother of U.S. soldier deployed to Europe gathers care packages for troops

The mother of a Fort Bragg soldier spoke with Channel 9 Wednesday about her efforts to support troops in Europe as tensions grow between Russia and the Ukraine.

Fosteria Pearson says her son, U.S. Army Maj. Myreon Brooks, was quickly deployed to Germany along with 2,000 troops from Fort Bragg after Russia began building its military along the Ukrainian borders.

Some troops were sent to Poland, as well.

Pearson said Brooks has also been deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and South Korea.

“No one really knows the emotions we go through, unless you are a mother and unless you have had a child that’s deployed,” she said. “Because honestly, it’s the unknown. What gives me comfort, of course, is God just letting me know, ‘Hey, he’s going to be alright, along with the others who are deployed.’”

Pearson says she’s not sure how long the troops will be there, but she wants the community to remember them and the families who are dealing with their absence.

She hopes to put together care packages for the troops.

“If you have a neighbor and you know their spouse or son and daughter is deployed, put together a care package or reach out to me,” Pearson said.
