CHARLOTTE — Fourteen long-term care facilities within a 25-mile radius of Charlotte carry a one-star government rating as of Sept. 9, with at least one facility recording abuse-related citations.
The ratings are published by the federal government through medicare.gov/care-compare, which evaluates nursing facilities on criteria including fire safety, health assessments, staffing ratios, complaint investigations, and infection prevention, according to The Charlotte Observer. The ratings come as costs for facility care continue to present significant financial burdens, with the Genworth Cost of Care survey recording the annual expense for a private room at a North Carolina skilled nursing facility at $129,575, or $10,798 per month.
Copperfield Health & Rehabilitation, located in Concord, was identified as a one-star facility that recorded abuse-related citations as of Sept. 9.
As of Sept. 9, five facilities in Charlotte received one-star overall ratings:
- Pine Crest Health & Rehabilitation
- White Oak Manor - Charlotte
- Pelican Health Randolph LLC
- Charlotte Health & Rehabilitation Center
- University Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
Other regional facilities as of Sept. 9 within 25 miles of Charlotte receiving one-star ratings include:
- Cabarrus Health and Rehabilitation Center in Concord
- The Greens at Gastonia and Gastonia Health & Rehab Center in Gastonia
- Pruitthealth - Union Pointe in Monroe
- Crestview Health & Rehabilitation and Glenwood Health & Rehabilitation in Mooresville
Across the state line in South Carolina, two facilities close to Charlotte were also assigned one-star ratings:
- Pruitthealth in Rock Hill
- Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill
