York County teens hospitalized after pursuit ends in crash

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Three York County teens are in the hospital after their car crashed at the end of a pursuit Tuesday night.

According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, just before 10 p.m., the teens were clocked by a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper going 108 mph near I-77 and Fort Mill. The driver then got off the highway on Gold Hill Road and did a U-turn in front of deputies.

Authorities followed the car toward Springfield middle and elementary schools before the teens lost control and crashed into a culvert. The car then caught on fire, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, one teen was ejected from the car, and deputies pulled the others out. All three teens suffered life-threatening injuries and they were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Accident Response Team will be investigating since SCHP and the York County Sheriff’s Office were involved.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t released the identities of the teens involved. Channel 9 is working on getting more information about any possible criminal charges.
