The letter, called “Letter 6419, 2021 advance CTC” will be mailed starting this week and continuing into January. It will include the amount of advance Child Tax Credit payments the person received during the past six months.

The letter will also include the number of qualifying children used to calculate the advance payments. The information will be used to file taxes due on April 18.

Eligible families who did not receive any advance Child Tax Credit payments can claim the full amount of the Child Tax Credit on their 2021 federal tax return. This includes families who don’t normally need to file a tax return.

The IRS suggests that tax filers keep the letter with other tax records.
