South Carolina governor orders flags at half-staff in honor of Chadwick Boseman

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster ordered the flags at the Capitol to be flown at half-staff Sunday in honor of actor Chadwick Boseman.

“To honor the life, contributions and memory of a truly extraordinary son of South Carolina (Chadwick Boseman) - I have ordered the flags atop the Statehouse to be lowered to half-staff (Sunday) from sunrise to sunset,” McMaster said on social media.

Boseman, who played Black icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown before landing the role as the regal Black Panther in the Marvel cinematic universe, died Friday at his home in Los Angeles with his wife and family at his side. He was 43.

Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago but the actor had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis.
