Trial Begins In Gas Station Double Shooting

IREDELL CO., N.C.,None — The trial of a man accused of killing two people during a convenience store robbery began Wednesday.

Andrew Ramseur, 21, is accused of killing store clerk Jennifer Vincek and customer Jeffrey Peck at a Shell station on Broad Street in Statesville on Dec. 16, 2007. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Wednesday morning, lawyers made their opening statements.

The prosecution then presented testimony from three people: the store manager, the man who found the two victims and a woman who said Ramseur had stayed at her home. The man who found the victims said he saw Ramseur drive away from the convenience store in a van.

The prosecution also showed surveillance video from cameras inside the store at the time of the incident. The woman whose home Ramseur had stayed in said it was him in the video and that he was wearing her hooded jacket.

David Wright, Vincek's fiancé, said the footage was difficult to watch.

"It's the first time I had seen it," Wright, who is now raising the couple's two daughters, 4-year-old Jazmyn and 2-year-old Samara, said. Vincek also has a third daughter, 10-year-old Aeryal, who lives in Ohio with her father.

The surveillance video shows the robbery and ensuing shootings.

"Seeing the pain she must have felt…," Bobbi Provost, Wright's mother, said. "I am thankful we have the video. There's no question as to what happened, no question as to who did it."

Ramseur lowered his head but showed little emotion as the surveillance video was shown.

"He shows no remorse," Wright said of Ramseur. "He didn't care."

Acquilla Cain, who grew up with Ramseur, said he knows a different man.

"I just know him as a good guy," Cain said.

If Ramseur is convicted, he could face the death penalty.
