Charlotte Carowinds visitors guide

Carowinds is a theme park in Charlotte.

Thrill rides, live entertainment and family fun are the draws at the Charlotte Carowinds amusement park. A seasonal park that is open on select dates from June through December, Carowinds is famed for its roller coaster collection, including two of the tallest steel roller coasters in North America.

But adrenaline junkies aren't the only visitors who will have a wild time at this Charlotte favorite, which also includes a Grand Carousel, a family-friendly dance party and live entertainment like Seasons of Cirque.

Attractions

The Fury 325 and other roller coasters: Speed demons and thrill seekers adore the roller coasters at Carowinds, especially the two steel roller coasters that are among the tallest in North America. The Fury 325 is a popular ride at the park, 325-feet tall and reaching speeds up to 95 mph. It ranks as the world's tallest and fastest giga coaster.

More thrill rides: Other daring rides at the park include a few that stretch high into the sky, like Windseeker or Drop Tower. A view of Charlotte is another perk as you dangle high in the sky!

Midway classics: For old-fashioned, family-friendly rides, Carowinds Midway classics include the ElectroSpin, Scream Weaver and Southern Star.

Camp Snoopy: One of the newest attractions at Carowinds is Camp Snoopy (yes, that Snoopy!) The re-imagined kids area includes six new junior attractions, like the Flying Ace Balloon Race, and characters from the PEANUTS gang.

Carolina Harbor Waterpark: Open in the summer months and through the first week of September, Carolina Harbor waterpark entry is included with Charlotte Carowinds admission. The waterpark is frankly massive and a great way to cool off from the Carolina summer swelter. Attractions include giant water slides, wave pools and a three-acre kids area, along with other spots to slide, splash, chill and dine.

Tickets: Season passes that include unlimited visits including "SCarowinds" and WinterFest celebrations, free parking, exclusive discounts and exclusive times to ride are available. Carowinds offers special pricing for juniors who are under 48 inches tall and seniors ages 62 and older.

Daily general admission tickets cost around $67 gate price, with multiple discounts available for attendance after 4 p.m., early season, "Good any day" pre-purchased admission tickets and so forth.

More must-know info about Carowinds amusement park:

  • Military and first responder discounts are available, both for single tickets and season passes.
  • The park will play host at celebrations for 15-99 people or larger groups of 100-plus, with perks that include group rates on tickets and food.
  • Carowinds provides a venue for young folks to shine, with competitions in music, JROTC drill and a Winterfest for bands, choirs, orchestras or dance groups.
