This holiday season, families can enjoy a magical experience when the N.C. Transportation Museum begins service to the North Pole. Inspired by the classic children’s book and hit movie, "THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride" takes passengers on an unforgettable excursion full of singing, dancing and merriment.

The journey begins with the train’s arrival and a live theater production from the story. Passengers are then whisked away for a 70-minute round-trip adventure to the North Pole and back, complete with hot chocolate and cookies.

Santa and his helpers greet passengers at the North Pole and then board the train, where each child is given the first gift of Christmas -- a silver sleigh bell.

Know before you go

Families are encouraged to wear their pajamas for the ride! The event does involve some walking, so shoes are recommended over your favorite fuzzy slippers.

The event consists of much more than a train ride. Crafts and activities are available before and after the trip, including s’mores-making fire pits. S’mores packets are available for purchase for $2.

The Polar Express Train Ride begins Nov. 15 and runs through Dec. 22 on select dates.

Ticket prices for children (ages 2-11) range from $32 to $42. Tickets for adults range from $38 to $48, depending on date and class of service.

Tickets for table seating are extremely limited.

Standard coach and deluxe coach seating are both available.

Exact dates, fares and excursion times are available by calling 704-469-5231 or visiting nctrans.org.
