WELLFORD, S.C. - Four people have died in a wreck on Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck involving six vehicles happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday near the 67 mile marker near Wellford. Cpl. Bill Rhyne said someone was driving south in a northbound lane of the highway, causing the wreck.
Rhyne said the wrong way driver was one of those who died in the wreck.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger said in a statement that he is working to identify the victims and notify their families.
Several people were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
The highway reopened Thursday morning.
