CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — After two years of fighting a $14,000 IRS tax debt, Terry Klassette finally got word that the agency will settle his bill for $100.
"This is the offer of compromise that the IRS accepted," he said.
It happened after he contacted Action 9 complaining that he had wasted money paying a tax settlement firm $3,300 to get his tax debt reduced.
"No. They didn't do nothing," he said.
Klassette said Wall and Associates still demanded he pay them $1,400 to continue working on his case just as the IRS threatened to seize his property.
"She said you got to keep paying us until we do this," he said.
Action 9 went to Wall and Associates virtual office on Independence Boulevard, then talked to their Virginia headquarters.
After Action 9's contact, a spokesman said they wouldn't charge Klassette the additional $1,400 fee, but he said they would continue working to get the IRS to accept a $100 offer in compromise to settle his $14,000 tax bill.
That's what the IRS then approved. Klassette credits Action 9 for getting his tax settlement firm to do the job he hired them to do.
"If I hadn't contacted you, I'd been out of $3,300 and I'd still be owing the IRS. So, a lot of weight off my shoulders," he said.
But here is the lesson: Be cautious which tax settlement firm you hire. Some high volume firms don't utilize tax attorneys.
Do your homework and be sure to get real case histories.
