CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A Charlotte man has made bail after being accused of running an illegal liquor house in east Charlotte.
Charlotte Mecklenburg police said they noticed a lot of people hanging with alcohol outside the home on Seigle Avenue.
A search warrant indicates an undercover officer went inside and ended up buying liquor from Victor Covington.
Police arrested him on Friday and took about $5,000 worth of liquor and beer from his home, they said.
Liquor houses have been around since Prohibition, in the 1920s, and they are still around today, selling alcohol with no taxes, regulation or supervision.
Police said the liquor houses are creating a ripe environment for crime, which is spreading to neighborhoods across Charlotte.
Police in Charlotte said they are focusing new energy on this old problem.
