Local Goodwill receives donations at Beyonce concert

This summer, music sensation Beyonce has partnered with Goodwill for the North American leg of “The Mrs. Carter World Show” tour, asking fans to support the organization’s work with donations.  The local chapter, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, set up a mobile donation center at Time Warner Cable Arena on Saturday, July 27 in order to receive donations at the show.

LaRita Barber, senior vice president of community engagement, says it was a very valuable opportunity for the Charlotte area Goodwill.  “To have Beyonce advancing our mission helps us tremendously to connect the mission to the community.”

She adds, “Allowing Goodwill to have a partnership with a national celebrity like Beyonce really does a fantastic job of raising brand awareness and bringing attention to the hard work that we’re doing.”

Fans were encouraged to donate clothing, electronics and small household goods.  The revenue from the sale of these donations will directly benefit Goodwill in their work to help people facing challenges to finding employment.

“They help us to provide training for people; they help us to get people ready for work; they help us to provide jobs for people; and they help people to really reclaim themselves.  We’re able to provide them with great opportunities to rebuild their skills, which is a tremendous value.”

Barber encourages people to stay engaged with Goodwill following the show.  “Continue to donate; continue to shop at our 22 stores in this region.  We certainly need your support because it’s all about the community.”
