Local used car dealership accused of fraud now looks closed

FORT MILL, S.C. — McCoy Motors in Fort Mill's lot was empty and its sign gone Thursday.

There was a handwritten sign on the door saying, "McCoy Motors is no longer at this location," with a number to call.

Action 9 called that number and the woman who answered said she didn't know if there was a new location. She said she's not with the dealership but she works for a payment center.

Both finance companies said the dealer held onto customers' payments instead of paying the finance companies.

Meanwhile, customers like Laporsha Ray are caught in the middle of it all.

Customers have questions about payments, tags and titles.

Ray said she owes money Friday, and her temporary tag expires Tuesday.

"What's going to happen to me?" she asked Action 9.

Action 9 spoke with both finance companies.

Officials said they're working with customers to set up payment plans so the customers can pay them directly and keep their vehicles.

If you have tag or title issues, make sure the South Carolina DMV knows.
