More fraud allegations against used car dealership

FORT MILL, S.C. — Action 9 reported last week that officials with Strategic Dealer Services said McCoy Motors, doing business as Ride Fast, owes it $1.8 million. Ride Fast is located in Lancaster, South Carolina.

On Friday, Action 9 found out officials with another finance company, Ace Motor Acceptance, said McCoy Motors, located in Fort Mill, owes about $1.4 million.

Dealership officials wouldn't comment.

In similar cases, experts said finance companies may have a right to repossess people's vehicles even though the customers made their payments.

"We've done our part, as the customer, to pay our bill for the car that we bought,” customer Cheree Crump said. “Why are we getting caught in the middle of all this?"

That was Action 9's first concern, so the team spoke with officials from both finance companies in the case.

The officials basically said the same thing: If you can prove you paid the dealership, the finance companies don't plan to repossess your vehicle. Customers should have kept all their paperwork associated with payments to the dealer. If customers used auto-draft, payments are easy to prove.
