'The Army should look like our country': Fort Bragg welcomes new 4-star general

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — There's a new man leading the Army's largest command at Fort Bragg.

Our news partners at WTVD reported Gen. Mark Milley passed the baton to now four-star Gen. Michael Garrett Thursday during a change of command ceremony on post.

"Michael Garrett, as one of our newest four-star officers, is one of the most talented officers that we've ever seen," said Milley.

The general is no stranger to Fort Bragg. He previously served with the 82nd Airborne Division and was Chief of Staff of 18th Airborne Corps.

Garrett now joins the likes of former General Colin Powell as one of the few African-American four-star commanders.

"The Army should look like our country and our soldiers deserve to look up the ranks and see ourselves so I am very proud to represent all of our soldiers," said Garrett.

Milley is leaving Fort Bragg to serve as Army Chief of Staff in Washington.
