$1 billion Powerball inspires people to dream about what to do with winnings

PINEVILLE, N.C. — As the Powerball jackpot soars to an estimated $1 billion, locals around Charlotte are already dreaming about what they would do if they won.

“I’m speaking it into existence because everything happens for a reason,” Food Lion shopper Nikki Boyd said.

Most people said they would use the winnings to pay off debt, buy a house or car, or just take a much-needed vacation.

Andre Chapman had other ideas, such as creating more housing options, starting his own business, and setting up his three kids for success.

“I do have goals and man I’m trying to do it without the billion. But hey, I’d love to have the billion though. That’d be nice,” Chapman explained.

At age 90, Raymond Christopher said he can’t help but dream. He said he would use the money for medical research to cure dementia, a disease that stole his beloved wife.

“The only lucky thing I did in my life is that I met my wife ... the most beautiful lady I ever met,” Christopher said.

The jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing will be the third largest in U.S. history. The largest Powerball jackpot was $2.04 billion. It was won last November.
