2 suspects arrested after killing at northeast Charlotte apartment complex, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers say two people have been arrested after an alleged murder at an apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

Paramedics told Channel 9 that one person died from a gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon in northeast Charlotte. On Wednesday, police identified the victim as 25-year-old Jcarta Sanders.

CMPD said that two suspects were identified and arrested after Sanders’ death. Joshua Douglas, 22, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Jeffrey Jones, 30, is charged with accessory after the fact of murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Douglas has a history of at least 21 previous arrests in Mecklenburg County, including charges of vehicular assault, fleeing, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and parole violations, among others. He was arrested in Charlotte on Aug. 11 and was released from jail on Aug. 17.

At this time, it’s not clear what led to the alleged shooting.

On Tuesday, investigators appeared to be around a white car riddled with several bullet holes in the parking lot at the Belmont at Tryon apartments along Sawyers Mill Road off North Tryon Street.
