Police ask for help identifying suspect in shooting at Concord shopping center

CONCORD, N.C. — Police are asking for help identifying the suspect in a shooting Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a Food Lion in Concord.

Concord police said the shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. at the Food Lion on Concord Parkway South.

When police arrived, they found a person had been shot following an argument with another man.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the victim and the suspect had a verbal argument before the two started shooting at each other.

A third person also started shooting but was uninjured.

The suspect ran away on foot towards the Parkway Station Apartments before police arrived.

“It was just kind of scary, honestly,” said Mikayla Hatfield, a cashier at Johnny Roger’s.

Hatfield said she he didn’t hear the shots and suddenly, people at tables outside rushed in.

“The whole incident happened pretty fast,” cook Joshua Adams said.

People inside could see what was unfolding outside of the restaurant.

“We were worried about if anybody with a gun was going to try to run this way,” Adams said.

Catina Johnson’s salon is closed on Mondays, but she shops at the Food Lion.

Johnson stopped at the grocery store a little while after the shooting happened.

“I had my granddaughter with me so if I would have came home earlier -- bullets don’t have names, so they can hit anybody,” Johnson said.

Police describe the suspect as a man in his late teens or early twenties with a tattoo on his face. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and sweatpants.

No further information has been released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5000 or Cabarrus County Crime Stoppers at 704-93-CRIME.
