Police: Suspect connected to Charlotte shooting arrested after SWAT situation in Concord

CONCORD, N.C. — A man wanted in connection with a Charlotte shooting was arrested Tuesday morning after a SWAT situation in Concord, according to officers.

Concord police and Charlotte Mecklenburg police surrounded a house at around 8 a.m. on Collingswood Drive near Central Drive.

The chief of police told reporter Susanna Black that the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Lavender Jay Sinclair, was armed inside the home.

At around 9:30 a.m., Channel was there when Sinclair walked out of the house with his hands up, and was taken into custody.

Sinclair was wanted for a shooting that happened on Feb. 13 in the parking lot of Rose Vine Place in southwest Charlotte. One person was seriously hurt in the shooting.

Sinclair had outstanding warrants for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Channel 9 also learned Sinclair was arrested for having a stolen firearm, but was released Feb. 20. He was supposed to be in court Tuesday for those charges.

Violent Criminal Apprehension Team detectives said they received information that Sinclair was armed with multiple firearms inside the house.

The Concord SWAT team was then called to assist and able to take Sinclair into custody without use of force.
