1 killed, 3 hurt in Alexander County head-on crash, troopers say

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — A 73-year-old Hickory man was killed and three others were injured in a wreck Tuesday afternoon on NC Highway 16 in Alexander County, near the Catawba County line, troopers said.

A 2002 Dodge Durango was traveling north on NC 16, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 1992 Toyota Camry in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Toyota, Steve Ray Yoder, died at the scene. Passenger Linda Yoder was critically injured and airlifted to a hospital.

The driver of the Dodge, Kevin Holloway, 51, of Claremont, and passenger Jerry Parson, 24, of Conover, were injured and taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Everyone in the crash was wearing seat belts, troopers said.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
