2 arrested in jail bribery investigation

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Undercover detectives with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tanesha Lashonda Turner and Cordera Rayshard Brown, an incarcerated man, on Friday following an investigation into contraband and bribery at the Rowan County Detention Center.

During the investigation, detectives identified Turner as a co-conspirator who assisted with obtaining contraband and providing payment for the bribe inside the facility, the sheriff’s office said. Turner allegedly helped Brown commit the crimes from outside the detention center.

Brown is currently incarcerated at the Rowan County Detention Center. Related to the investigation, Brown was charged with felony bribery, felony conspiracy and possession of tobacco on jail premises.

Brown is also awaiting trial on several previously filed charges. Those pending charges include felony identity theft, felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, the sheriff said.

A detention officer helped investigate the case and did not commit any crimes, the sheriff said.

Detectives with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
