BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Two men were charged in Burke County in the death of a woman, whose body was found in Rutherford County last week, according to officials.
Michael Shuping stared at the ceiling of the courtroom as the judge told him he and Timothy Edwards were charged with murder. The judge said the men could be sentenced to death if convicted by a jury.
They are accused of killing Leslie Hensley a week ago and then driving to Rutherford County, where five days later deputies found her body down a dirt road.
Family members said Hensley, who has three children, was shot in the chest and that the men claimed it was an accident.
The family members said they knew something was wrong when the 39-year-old stopped posting anything on Facebook, and that's when they started looking for her.
Sheriff's deputies have released very few details about the case, including the exact location where the body was found.
