21-year-old suspect in triple homicide found dead, Huntersville police say

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A 21-year-old man Huntersville police said is accused of killing three men died by suicide.

Officers responded to the 17500 block of Caldwell Station Road at about 3 p.m. Tuesday and found Michael Eugene Elliot dead. A homicide investigation began that day.

Investigators found a second homicide victim, Kendrick Logan Knight, 26, the next day in a nearby wooded area.

On Thursday, Detectives found another homicide victim, Philip Daryl Jewell, 41, in his home that is in the same mobile home community.

The suspect, Michael Jacob Matocha, was also inside the home dead, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Police said all the victims were killed on the same day.

The public was not made aware earlier because police believed the murders were an isolated incident and not a threat to the community.

The motive for the slayings is not known.
