4 people, including 3-year-old twins, die in crash near Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Four people, including 3-year-old twins, lost their lives in a crash in York County on Friday night, South Carolina Highway Patrol reported.

The York County Coroner’s Office identified 39-year-old Kristen Agard, 30-year-old Tionese Crim Hughes, 3-year-old Mackenzie Hughes, and 3-year-old Mariah Hughes as the crash victims. All four were from Rock Hill.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday on Saluda Road near Highway 324, just 10 minutes south of downtown Rock Hill.

Troopers say three cars were involved. Two of the cars were heading west on Saluda Road when one car, a 2018 Chevrolet sedan being driven by Agard, crossed the center line. The car hit a 2019 Nissan sedan being driven by Tionese Hughes.

The drivers of the two cars died at the scene, the coroner said.

The crash caused the Chevrolet to hit a third car, a 2018 Chevrolet SUV, which was behind the Nissan.

No one was injured in the SUV.

One of the children in the car with Hughes died on the way to the hospital, the coroner said. The other child was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte but she later died from her injuries.

Right Choice Child Development Center posted pictures on Facebook mourning the lives of Mackenzie, Mariah and Tionese Hughes.

The girls apparently attended the daycare.

SCHP is still investigating this crash. The coroner says toxicology reports are still pending.

Troopers did not say whether they believed speeding, impairment, or weather conditions contributed to the deadly crash.
